What to Expect

Understanding the Autism Spectrum Disorder Assessment Process

As a professional clinician conducting assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), it's important to outline the structured process clients and their families can expect during this evaluation. The assessment is initiated through an in-depth interview led by Diane, aimed at gathering comprehensive insights into the client's life, including family dynamics, educational background, behavioral history, and other psychological factors.

Key areas of focus include:

- The client’s living environment, daily routines, and the quality of interpersonal relationships within the family, other social settings and educational settings.

- An exploration of the client’s communication skills, social and behavioral patterns, alongside any history of psychological conditions.

- An assessment of communication behaviors and habits with a detailed look at the client’s mental, emotional and physical health history, interests, and hobbies.

In addition to these discussions, Diane will administer the highly regarded assessmemt instruments specifically designed to assess and identify characteristics of ASD. This involves tailored inquiries relevant to autism and other psychological conditions.

The evaluation process further comprises:

- The completion of a detailed intake form by the client and, when applicable, by parents or other caregivers.

- Interviews not only with the client but also, as appropriate, with parents and other family members, enriching the evaluation with diverse perspectives.

- A thorough review of the client’s medical, developmental history, and any developmental delays or concerns.

Following the assessment(s), Diane will compile a comprehensive report summarizing her findings, diagnostic conclusions, and any specific areas of concern. This report will also offer tailored recommendations and outline a treatment plan designed to support the client’s well-being and development.

This detailed approach ensures a holistic understanding of each client, facilitating targeted interventions that are pivotal in supporting individuals on the autism spectrum and their families.

One inclusive fee encompasses the entire assessment process, including the diagnostic report and the subsequent results review session.
