Eat a Mood-Boosting Diet and feel Better!

Eat a healthy, mood-boosting diet and feel better!

What you eat has a direct impact on the way you feel.

Reduce your intake of foods that can adversely affect your brain and mood, such as caffeine, alcohol, trans fats, and foods with high levels of chemical preservatives or hormones (such as certain meats).

Don’t skip meals. Going too long between meals can make you feel irritable and tired, so try to eat something at least every three to four hours.

Minimize sugar and refined carbs. You may crave sugary snacks, baked goods, or comfort foods such as pasta or French fries, but these “feel-good” foods quickly lead to a crash in mood and energy. Try to cut out as much of these foods as possible.

Boost your B vitamins. Deficiencies in B vitamins such as folic acid and B-12 can trigger depression. To get more, take a B-complex vitamin supplement or eat more citrus fruit, leafy greens, beans, chicken, and eggs.

Omega-3 fatty acids play an essential role in stabilizing moods

Foods that are rich in certain omega-3 fats called EPA and DHA can give your mood a big boost.

The best sources are fatty fish such as salmon, herring, mackerel, anchovies, sardines, tuna, and some cold-water fish oil supplements.

OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)- Understanding and Help

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health disorder that affects people of all ages and walks of life.

OCD occurs when a person gets caught in a cycle of being compulsive and obsessive with their behavior.

An example is when someone washes their hands continuously afraid of germs.

Another example is when someone has to have their things perfectly neat and in order.

Individuals who have OCD can have unwanted, intrusive thoughts, images or urges that can trigger extreme distressing feelings.

Compulsions are behaviors an individual engages in in attempt to get rid of the obsessions and/or to decrease their distress.

Reference:(International OCD Foundation, Boston )

While medication can help, there are also others ways to help OCD.

CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) is one of the leading therapeutic techniques used to treat OCD. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is now used in place of traditional psychoanalysis and many other forms of therapy because researchers have learned over the past 15 years that other techniques usually have little impact on the underlying causes of the disorder (ruminating thoughts and fears) and its symptoms.

A Clinical Mental Health Counselor can implement CBT to help OCD

Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapeutic treatment that helps individuals to better understand the thoughts and feelings that can influence their behaviors.

CBT is commonly used to treat a wide range of disorders which includes fear, various addictions, depression, and anxiety.

It is also helpful to:

Reduce and mange stress

Get adequate sleep

Eat foods that are rich in Vitamin B and omega 3

Meditate, do yoga and exercise

Seek support from others

Just keep Going - Stay on Course
No Matter The Struggle- Keep Going

Don't let your life's changes and challenges get to get the best of you or throw you off track.

It is good to think of the fact that most extenuating circumstances are temporary.

You can gain more clarity and strength by staying the course and channeling your mental and physical energy in a positive direction.

Do not even allow yourself to use up energy by focusing on what you do not have any control over in the first place.

Choose to instead focus on doing what you can do and KEEP GOING>>>>>> FORWARD IS FORWARD NO MATTER THE PACE.

Naturally- Boost Your Immune System

Boost your immune system during cold and flu season naturally:

1. Elderberry Syrup

(Sold at most health food stores.)

2.Vitamin D3

( In the winter, we get less sunlight so we can become ill more from lack of this important vitamin.)

3. Vitamin C

(This is good for helping to keep extra fluid and mucus off the lungs and boosting the immune system.)

4. Probiotics

( Having a clean gut health is an important part to having a healthy immune system. The gut connects to the brain and plays a role in our health.)

5. Well balanced diet

( This is important to help maintain a gut health and to get plenty of natural vitamins through healthy foods.)

6.Fresh air and exercise

(This helps give natural vitamin D3 that is often lacking in wintertime. Exercise keeps your body moving and functioning properly.)

7. Essential oils

A healthy body and a healthy mind are intertwined

When You Are Down- Pray!
Prayer When Your Are Depressed
By: Dr. Walter L. Weston
God, life seems so bleak and useless right now. I don't have any energy. I have no ambition to do much of anything. I am really feeling down. I feel "down on" myself and "down on" everyone around me. Even as I pray, I don't sense your presence. I am going through the motions, knowing that you are still with me. I know that I am sacred and precious but they are just words right now. I know that my life has been worthwhile, full of many wonderful people and experiences, much happiness and joy. I feel little of this right now. God, all I can do is affirm the goodness of life and try to hold on until the darkness is replaced by your light and love.
Help me to spot the lies that my depressed emotions are telling me. Life is good. I am good. You are good. Grant me hope. My loved ones love me. Life will be beautiful again. Soon, I will see the beauty around me again. Soon, I will again know vitality and purpose, happiness and love. Until then, give me the strength and hope to survive this day.
Help me to smile and laugh, even if just for a moment. Be my strength and salvation. I ask you to restore me and make me whole. Fill me with the Word and the Spirit that I might be recreated anew. I praise and thank you. Amen.
