Having an Attitude of Gratitude When You Feel as Though You Have Nothing
It is very difficult sometimes to just get through the day when you feel low in spirits.

When you feel as though you do not have what you want or need in your life, it is not easy to be thankful.

However, even when it is not readily evident, you can always find blessings among the chaos of life.

It is often in our worst and most painful moments in life when we see God move the most.

He reveals himself to us in the midst of our struggles if we simply look for.. and seek Him in our lives. For as it says in Matthew 7:7, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."

"Do Not Judge Me On My Past- I Do Not Live There Anymore"
Please do not judge me based on my past- as I do not live there anymore!

I have a past that is not too pretty. I am divorced. I was abused. I have made mistakes. I have had extreme struggles. I have been homeless. I have lived with only having hand- me- downs to wear. I could go on and on and on......

I am not my past. I am healed from past traumas and anxiety. I am whole. I am happy. I have forgiven and I am forgiven.

I am a more compassionate counselor having gone through tragedies and having made mistakes in my life.

You are not your past either. Use what you have been through to grow and learn.

Also, learn to look at others with optimism on what they can become with what they have gone through- whether it was something they did or something that was done to them.

We are all God's children and we all make mistakes. Do not judge others because they sin differently then you - or because their mistakes or problems are not as visible as yours.

Choose instead -- to offer people who most people judge with a stigma----- love and support.

In Memory of My Mother- Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day- Learn the Symptoms
The 17th of Nov. is Pancreatic Cancer Day.

This is very dear to my heart.

My mother passed away from this type of cancer when I was in my 20's.

Pancreatic Cancer is the 7th most common cause of cancer-related death in Men and Women across the globe.

Learn the warning signs-
Pancreatic Cancer Symptoms:

Pancreatic cancer typically does not cause symptoms until it has grown, so it is most frequently diagnosed in advanced stages rather than early in the course of the disease. In some cases, jaundice (a yellowish discoloration of the skin and whites of the eyes) without pain can be an early sign of pancreatic cancer. Other symptoms that can occur with more advanced disease are:

  • nausea,
  • vomiting,
  • weight loss,
  • itching skin, and
  • decreased appetite.
Pale stools, back pain, abdominal pain, dark urine, abdominal bloating, diarrhea, and enlarged lymph nodes in the neck can be present as well.

The pancreas is located in the abdomen and has endocrine and exocrine functions. Cancer cells can develop from both types of functional cells.

Live The Life You Have Always Wanted - Life Beyond Regret, Shame, and Pain
In order to live life abundantly, you need to get past things that are weighing you down.

A lot of the time-- regret, pain, and shame  stop us from moving forward in life.

We feel bad for things in our past and we do not feel that we deserve to move forward and enjoy our lives. So because of this, we try not to enjoy life as a means to punish ourselves in a way. We think to ourselves that we deserve to feel bad and we should not enjoy ourselves.

However, it is more than okay to enjoy your life even after you have made mistakes or if you have had terrible things happen to you.

God wants you to move on from your pain and shame and enjoy the world that he has made for us!

Admitting to yourself that things need to change in your life is the first step.

Remember-  that if nothing changes- nothing changes!

Admit change is needed. Then prepare yourself mentally for change. Allow yourself to change and heal.

Open your mind and heart to it. Tell yourself that it is okay to move forward and to enjoy yourself in life again.

You may need to get help if need be from a counselor and learn to let go of pain, shame, guilt, regret, and more.

Admit things need to change.
Be open for change.
Work through what is causing you pain and then let go of it.

Then....rewire your thinking in such a way that you are telling yourself daily that you CAN and Will move forward in your life.

Make a move toward change.
Get up- get dressed- and show up in life again and tell yourself that you will enjoy yourself in life again!!!!!

One step at a time. One day at a time.
Seek support.

Have Hope!

Free Grief and Loss Support Group Tomorrow (Tuesday, Nov. 15th) @ 7pm

  1. SHOCK & DENIAL-
You may react to learning of a loss with disbelief. You may deny the reality of the loss at some level to be able to avoid the pain. Shock can provide emotional protection from being overwhelmed all at once. This may last for weeks.
  2. PAIN & GUILT-
As the shock begins to wears off, it is replaced with the suffering of unbelievable pain. Although it is excruciating and almost unbearable, it is important that you experience the pain fully, and not hide it, avoid it or escape from it with alcohol or drugs.

You may also have guilty feelings or remorse over things you did or didn't do with your loved one. Life feels chaotic and scary during this phase.
  3. ANGER & BARGAINING-
Frustration paves the way to anger and you may lash out and place unwarranted blame for the death on someone else. Try your best to control this, as permanent damage to your relationships may result. This is a time for the release of bottled up emotion.

You may also start to think- "Why me?" You may also try to bargain in vain with the powers that be for a way out of your despair ("I will never drink again if you just bring him back")
  4. "DEPRESSION", REFLECTION, LONELINESS-
Just when your friends may think you should be getting on with your life, a long period of sad reflection may likely overtake you. This is a normal stage of grief, so do not be "talked out of it" by well-meaning outsiders. During this time, you finally realize the true magnitude of your loss, and it depresses you. You may isolate yourself on purpose, reflect on things you did with your lost one, and focus on memories of the past. You may sense feelings of emptiness or despair. This is normal to feel this way.
  5. THE UPWARD TURN-
As you start to adjust to life without your loved one, your life becomes a little calmer and more organized. Your physical symptoms will lessen, and your "depression" will begin to lift slightly.
  6. RECONSTRUCTION & WORKING THROUGH-
As you become more functional, your mind will start working again and you will find yourself seeking realistic solutions to problems posed by life without your loved one. You will start to work on practical and financial problems and reconstructing yourself and your life without him or her.
  7. ACCEPTANCE & HOPE-
During this time, you will learn to accept and deal with the reality of your situation. Acceptance does not necessarily mean instant happiness. Due to the pain and turmoil that you have experienced, you can never return to the carefree, untroubled YOU that existed before this tragedy. But you will find a way forward.........Reference- recover from grief .com
