Smoothies That Help You Loose Weight
Creating your own smoothie from scratch can help you loose weight.

From scratch smoothies let you control the ingredients that go into it.

Adding high-fiber foods will help you to feel fuller for a longer period of time.

Adding protein will help you feel full and also help to increase muscle mass.

By making the smoothie yourself you have better control of the sweeteners that go into your drink.  Adding sugar or other sweeteners will increase your calorie intake.

Adding vegetable such as spinach or kale will add fiber but not as many calories.

And best of all, you'll enjoy a smoothie made 100% by you.

Benefits of Expressive Writing
Taking the time to write about an event and how it has affected you can help "to overcome trauma and manage negative emotions."

In the short-term, expressive writing may stir up negative emotions and moods.

However, studies show that in the long-term, there are health benefits such as a better self image, better emotional health, and better immune health.

Sit, Walk, Or Stand?

For several years we've heard that sitting at a desk all day is detrimental to your health. It can increase a person's risk of type 2 diabetes and sitting for extended periods increases the risk of death.

This caused a wave of interest in standing desks.

However, a small study of twenty people finds that standing at a desk all day may increase the swelling of lower limbs and a decrease in a person's mental abilities.

Alternatively, researchers suggest that taking time away from your desk and walking is probably a better option.  It gets you active, moving muscles, burning calories, and increases blood flow.

The long and short is that being in one position for extended periods of time is just not healthy.

Mental Health Benefits of Eating Real Foods

Eating a diet high in fruit, vegetables, nuts, lean meats, whole grains, and fish is helpful in cutting depression by up to 11 percent.

Researchers found that the diet helped to improve people's mental health and give them a boost in energy.  It also reduced blood pressure and helped people to lose weight.

In contrast, the Western diet is high in sugar and processed foods and is thought to contribute to mental health disorders, weight gain, and various other health problems.

Walking May Protect Your Brain
Researchers studied the effect of aerobic exercise, such as walking, on older adults who were were at risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.

"[O]lder adults who did aerobic exercise alone showed the most significant improvement in brain function in comparison to those who participated in both aerobic training and strength training exercises."

Researchers also pointed out that regardless the type of exercise, older adults who did do something performed better than those adults who did not exercise at all.
