- SHOCK & DENIAL-
You may react to learning of a loss with disbelief. You may deny the reality of the loss at some level to be able to avoid the pain. Shock can provide emotional protection from being overwhelmed all at once. This may last for weeks. - PAIN & GUILT-
As the shock begins to wears off, it is replaced with the suffering of unbelievable pain. Although it is excruciating and almost unbearable, it is important that you experience the pain fully, and not hide it, avoid it or escape from it with alcohol or drugs.
You may also have guilty feelings or remorse over things you did or didn't do with your loved one. Life feels chaotic and scary during this phase. - ANGER & BARGAINING-
Frustration paves the way to anger and you may lash out and place unwarranted blame for the death on someone else. Try your best to control this, as permanent damage to your relationships may result. This is a time for the release of bottled up emotion.
You may also start to think- "Why me?" You may also try to bargain in vain with the powers that be for a way out of your despair ("I will never drink again if you just bring him back") - "DEPRESSION", REFLECTION, LONELINESS-
Just when your friends may think you should be getting on with your life, a long period of sad reflection may likely overtake you. This is a normal stage of grief, so do not be "talked out of it" by well-meaning outsiders. During this time, you finally realize the true magnitude of your loss, and it depresses you. You may isolate yourself on purpose, reflect on things you did with your lost one, and focus on memories of the past. You may sense feelings of emptiness or despair. This is normal to feel this way. - THE UPWARD TURN-
As you start to adjust to life without your loved one, your life becomes a little calmer and more organized. Your physical symptoms will lessen, and your "depression" will begin to lift slightly. - RECONSTRUCTION & WORKING THROUGH-
As you become more functional, your mind will start working again and you will find yourself seeking realistic solutions to problems posed by life without your loved one. You will start to work on practical and financial problems and reconstructing yourself and your life without him or her. - ACCEPTANCE & HOPE-
During this time, you will learn to accept and deal with the reality of your situation. Acceptance does not necessarily mean instant happiness. Due to the pain and turmoil that you have experienced, you can never return to the carefree, untroubled YOU that existed before this tragedy. But you will find a way forward.........Reference- recover from grief .com FREE Supports Groups Offered

What have you failed at today? That's right, failed at.
If you are not failing at something consistently then you are not trying consistently to reach a goal!
What would you do in life if you knew that you would not fail?
Work actively toward that goal and if you have failed attempts then learn from them and try again and again and again with what your failed attempts taught you.
Allow 1,000 no's before hearing a yes.

Here are some ways that are NOT productive or healthy to engage in when angered:
Suppression -
Holding in and stuffing your emotions
Being Passive Aggressive -
This is when you tend to want to seek revenge on someone or act unbecoming to them in a quiet and / or calming manner. With this, you tend to preserve your needs and convictions in a subdued manner.
Open Aggression -
This is shouting, blaming, accusing, slamming, shoving, cursing, etc.
These behaviors should be avoided. Stuffing emotions will make things build up in you and exploding is harmful.

Reminder that there will NOT be a support group this week. We will meet
next on Tuesday, Nov. 8th at 7pm. Have a blessed week! Diane
Tonight I was honored to attend a fundraiser in Nashville for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The event raised $65,000.00 for their foundation.
It is an organization that grants wishes for children ages 3 to 18 who have life threatening illnesses.
College girls modeled in a fashion show to raise money for the foundation. They invited 6 children who are "Make-A- Wish kids" to be in the show as well.
My 3 year old granddaughter was a model in the show. She was born with multiple heart defects. She walked the runway and added in some ballerina moves.
There were speakers. One of the speakers was a 15 year old Make-A-Wish recipient.
It was truly inspiring.
I was trying to hold back tears during the entire 2 hour event. All of a sudden, my struggles didn't seem so big.
During the evening, I was also convicted to become a volunteer for the organization to help children receive a wish as they struggle with a terminal illness.
I was inspired.
I am sharing to inspire you as well.
Brooklyn and I after the fashion show.
She is my hero and my inspiration.

It is easy to over commit, to do too much, get burned out, become worn out, become overwhelmed, become stressed out and spread too thin.
Do not let being too busy rob you of your joys and peace.
Stop committing to things and people if it is stressing you.
Everything is about having a balance.
Take inventory today and ask yourself if you can cut commitments or other things out or down from your life that are frustrating you, giving you anxiety, or overwhelming you.
Ask yourself if you are living a life that is balanced or a life that is overwhelming and hectic and make the needed changes for peace.
