Faster Ways To Get To Sleep

Transitioning from a busy day to slowing down and falling asleep can be difficult for some people.

Maybe one or more of these ideas might help.

According to Rachel Salas, MD and professor of neurology at johns Hopkins, blowing bubbles, just like you did as a kid, can help you get to sleep faster.

The activity helps you to breath deeper and calms the body.  And since it is silly, it might help to take your thoughts off of your worries.

Opening a book and reading a few pages while in bed can help relax your body and distract your mind from your worries.

Listening to soft, downtempo music can relax the body, lower blood pressure and prepare you for sleep.

Fret Not
The people who make up the the family of God are varied and unique.  Some are great in faith and others struggle their entire Christian walk with faith that is weak and imperceptible.

God does not grow us all at the same rate nor do we all believe exactly the same things.

Some of us mature quickly and bear much fruit, others of us far more slowly seemingly bearing little fruit.

To us, God's plan may be mystifying.  But God is glorified to have in His church people in every walk and season of Christian life.

We can rest in Christ, knowing that He will complete His work in us and bring us into glory.

The Son of Man
The Christian minister, Charles Spurgeon, points out something interesting.

Of all the rightful titles that Christ could have used to identify himself, He most regularly used "Son of man."

Spurgeon writes, "But behold the lowliness of Jesus! He prefers to call Himself the Son of man.  Let us learn a lesson of humility from our Savior.  Let us never become devoted to seeking great titles or proud degrees.  There is here, however, a far sweeter thought. Jesus loved manhood so much, that he delighted to honour it."

And further on, "Yet, there is an even more precious thought.  Jesus Christ called Himself the Son of man to express His oneness and sympathy with His people.  He reminds us that we may approach Him without fear.  We may take all our griefs and troubles to Him, for He knows them by experience.  Since He Himself suffered as the 'Son of man,' He is able to comfort us."

Weight Loss - Improving the Odds

Eating fruit may increase your odds of losing weight.  A couple of studies show that overweight adults who ate fruit “experienced greater weight loss than those who didn’t.”

Even though fruit has natural occurring sugars, the the sugar comes with water, vitamins, minerals, and fiber.  These protect the body from disease, high “blood pressure, cholesterol, and inflammation.”

Researchers suggest incorporating fruit consumption into meals and snacks during the hours you are most active.

Type-2 Diabetes- Plant Based Foods Can Help
There may be hope for the person who struggles with Type-2 diabetes.

Increasing the amount of plant based foods can help to mitigate the progress of this disease.

"Adding just two different kinds of fruits and vegetable to your weekly groceries can reduce the risk of type-2 diabetes by as much as eight percent."

Plants tend to be "rich in nutrients and low in calories."  Incorporating them into your diet can help you shed weight and lower blood pressure.

Grace to Survive Our Failures
When God saved us, He justified us and sanctified us.  But He let us struggle with sin for our remaining days on this earth.  He knows knows the terrible sin that remains within each one of us.

We sinful Christians are often quick to go to God to ask Him for the grace, power and strength to overcome temptation and sin.

But many times we still succumb to temptation and sin.

We’re left feeling defeated, perhaps shocked by our sin, even convinced that we’ve failed God and that He must be severely disappointed in us.

We might feel that way because we simply don't understand the magnitude of the sin that remains in our lives.

Instead of feeling defeated when we sin, perhaps we should be asking for the grace to survive our failures and to find joy and delight in the Lord in spite of our failed efforts.

Developing a Successful Mindset
Your whole life is a result of your mindset and how you have set your mind.

If you deconstruct the word mindset, you have the words mind and set.

In one context set is an adjective of the word mind as in, You have a set mind.

In another context, set can be a verb as in, You will set your mind.  It is a process, something that you do.

A mindset is something that's static.  But sometimes a person's mindset does not work out well and needs to be changed.

If we're getting results in our lives that we don't like, we're going to have to change things by resetting or setting  so that we can develop a successful mindset.  We change our mindset by learning to set our minds.

But Why Me? Ways to Get Past The Pain
Many of my clients who are going through a difficult time ask the question, "Why me?"

Most of them usually compare their life to others. The assume that others are happier, healthier, have more money, have nicer things, more friends, less problems and so on.

Many of the people that we compare ourselves to and often envy are not living this picture perfect life that we often dream up that they do.

Still yet, we wonder, why me? Why Lord do I have to endure this extreme physical and/ or emotional pain?

I give the same answer to everyone to asks. We live in a fallen world with illness, sadness, abuse, free will and hardships. And- everything who we think has a perfect life- does not.

The truth is that at one time or another- all of us will experience some type of pain or struggle.

A lot of the times, people's struggles are hidden. But we all have them.

The best way to work on getting past the pain is to:

Demonstrate positive self talk every day. Tell yourself that you are okay over and over.

Take deep breaths.

Think of a peaceful and safe visual in your mind with you in the vision.

Count your blessings.

Let go of what you do not have control of.

Write out tiny steps of short term goals of what is in your control to make positive changes.

Seek support.

Pray to God. He loves you with an everlasting love.

Do what you can with where you are with what you have.

Demonstrate self - care. Take a walk. Drink water. Eat healthy. Get plenty of rest. Do something that you enjoy.

Seek help. Talk to someone who cares/ who can help you.

Remember that emotional pain is temporary.

Talk to yourself rationally that you have not been singled out but rather, that everyone goes through difficult times.

Tell yourself that you can and will get past your difficulties.

Take one day at a time.

Focus on positivity and a better day coming. What you feed your mind will influence your emotions and your actions.

Forgive others and yourself and try not to compare your life to another person's life.

Try to enjoy the journey instead of focusing on the finish line.

Learn and grow.

Be a blessing to someone else.

Pray!

Call someone!
